Becoming Recession Proof
by Kerry Daigle
“The economy is falling apart! The economy is falling apart!” Listen tothe media every day and you will definitely get depressed. Depression…Depression.” Relax….Chill out! Everything will be ok if you choose for it to be. That is your decision. The economy should not control you… you should control your ‘own’ economy.
I do agree that the economy has slowed down considerably. That doesn’t mean you have to give up and accept mediocrity. Now is the time to fight back and do things you should have done when things were more relaxed. Times like these in the economy sometimes bring out the very best in people and show their strengths. Don't let the TV show hosts and the nightly news anchors make you emotional and fall apart mentally about the economy. If you allow others to control your actions, you're going to be financially depressed your whole life.
“You can make money or you can make excuses. You just can’t make them both at the same time.”
Life and “success in life” follow certain programmed thoughts. You, personally, can choose success or choose mediocrity. It is all about making decisions to control your future and make plans to move forward.
Of course we have seen the economy shrink and people losing jobs and investments such as real estate and retirement accounts. So, how does the average person beat the system? It’s really a simple answer. Develop the God given talents you have and find ways to develop different streams of income by being proactive and creative in developing income producing strategies.
“People do not decide their future. They decide their habits and their habits decide their future.”
Here is what we are trained to do in the United States:
Ø Finish high school
Ø Get a higher educational degree
Ø Get a good job with some benefits
Ø Attempt to work hard to get ahead in your job
Ø If company downsizes or problems arise, leave the company and collect unemployment
Ø Work on getting another degree or some higher education
Ø Start the cycle all over again
That reminds me of the ‘hamster’ on the wheel. Running fast but with no place to go. Every day is the same routine. Loyalty to one company is history. Working for one company 25 to 30 years is no longer the norm. People are changing jobs on the average every 5 years. Survival is generally the mode more than a working plan to beat the system and finding a way to develop ‘free time’ to enjoy life while developing an income.
“Our greatest power is the power to choose. We can decide where we are, what we do, and what we think. No one can take the power to choose away from us. It is ours alone. We can do what we want to and can be who we want to be.”
“Many things are happening in today’s global economy that is going to create huge paradigm shifts in how we do business in America. Distribution of products from the manufacturer to the end consumer is changing. The old system of distribution is not working. (*Note …we do Power Lunches for an attendance of 25 each Friday at the Petroleum Club of Lafayette by only).
Robert Allen who wrote the book MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME and sold thousands of his books in the 90’s had many answers to diversify income through investments, part-time jobs, money making hobbies and home based businesses. People should no longer think of themselves as employees of companies but to have an entrepreneurial mindset to maximize income.
One direction many people are going to are direct sales companies like Prestige Jewelry, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Avon, and Juice Plus. These are all different products that a person can market or ‘sell’. Most all of these company’s distributors operate out of their home and do home parties or presentations that develop in residual income or portfolio income giving these distributors more free time to enjoy their family and personal quests.
“’Success is failure turned inside out….so stick to the fight when you are hardest hit…It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.”
The key is to stop listening to the media that creates a vision of you being a ‘victim’. Working hard while having creative ideas and developing self discipline with a strong business plan can help anyone beat the recession.
We all have the ability to utilize our minds to overcome negative thoughts and conquer all obstacles put in front of us. That is the power of the human mind. It is designed to create a result that we choose to accomplish, however, our real potential lies in the intestinal fortitude to want to succeed and to achieve the most results we can gain from our efforts. The quality of our result is determined on one thing………..and you’ve heard this a thousand times from many people…..’The right attitude’.
Our attitude determines our vision and what we ‘want’ to see. Our attitude determines whether we see obstacles or ‘opportunities in disguise’ testing us to see if we really want to achieve the most success we can. Our attitude determines whether we have the ability to dream again.
A great book for everyone to read is written by author Burke Hedges entitled WHO STOLE THE AMERICAN DREAM II (www.amazon.com ). Burke really hits the nail on the head about Corporate America and will enlighten you also. |
