Casal vs. Fernandez at
Buffalo Niagara Convention Center

Promoter Nick Garone and his X-Cel Worldwide have announced most of the opponents for their November 6 “Road to Redemption” event at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.

In the main event, hometown hero Nick “Hands of Gold” Casal (19-4-1, 15 KOs) will face Salt Lake City’s Christopher “Kid Kayo” Fernandez (18-7-1, 11 KOs) in an eight-round super lightweight showdown.

Fernandez has had mixed success as he’s stepped up his competition, but recently went the distance with highly rated former junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi.

"The first time Nick fought on one of my shows, it was just to get him back in the ring and back to the winning column. This fight against Fernandez represents the next step in our plans," explained Garone. “He’s a tough kid who’s gone some rounds with some very tough guys and even taken a few 0’s along the way from some undefeated fighters. We think he’s a great choice for the fans and for Nick.”

In the chief supporting bout, Bahamas native Meacher Major “Pain” (16-3-1, 14 KOs) will go against longtime respected contender Dorin Spivey (35-6, 28 KOs) for the NABA Lightweight Championship belt and increased standing in the world rankings.

Major fought for the same belt in his last appearance, but the bout was ruled a no-contest after an accidental foul.

The undercard will be led by undefeated Buffalo super bantamweight Guillermo Sanchez (10-0, 5 KOs), who will face fellow New Yorker Jose Guzman (8-5-1, 5 KOs) for the State Championship.

Buffalo light heavyweight Lionell Thompson (1-0) will be pitted against Michael Montoya (2-0) of Denver. Buffalo heavyweight Excell Holmes (1-0) takes on Joe Montoya (1-0) in a heavyweight bout. Michael and Joe Montoya are brothers.

Buffalo cruiserweight Greg Brady hopes to make his professional debut. His opponent is still TBA and rounding out the action will be a super lightweight tilt between Pueblo, Colorado’s Geoffrey Spruiell (8-7) and New York City’s Broderick Antoine (7-8).
